About Chicago Academy of Dog Training

Here at Chicago Academy of Dog Training your dog is our #1 priority.
The Chicago Academy of Dog Training was established in the fall of 2005 and now has a 7,000 square foot facility situated in Roscoe Village. Our philosophy is a simple one: to enrich the lives of both dog and owner through education, love, care, and communication. Our purpose is not to fill our kennels. This business was started out of love and compassion for dogs. When we first started this company it was exclusively behavior training . As the clientele grew we realized there where so many dogs that needed a kennel that would go above and beyond for them. Most of my clients at the time had dogs with behavior issues and they would not do well in most normal kennel settings, or other kennels just said no they would not deal with them. This is when we realized it was time to expand. My single family home was not able to hold all the dogs that where needing to stay. This is when we decided to move on to bigger and brighter things and open the first kennel in Chicago to cater exclusively to the dogs, Not just a place to built for the humans to think it looks nice. No, your dog will not have a plasma screen in their suite but they will be to tired to watch one anyway! We believe in a very strict regiment of food, fun, play, train, and potty. All of the dogs are split up into small playgroup (up to 7 dogs) that have all been evaluated and put together by personality and activity level, they travel in those packs for the day for all potty times and playgroup. All of our employees have basic clicker training skills and have their clicker and treats on them all day to reinforce good behaviors and to make sure that the groups don't get to unruly. We want to make sure that every second of your dogs stay is safe, and fun. All of our dog trainers take a balanced* approach to all aspects of training. We understand that all dogs’ and owners’ needs are not the same and thus, not every method works for every dog. All our trainers are certified canine training and behavior specialists or in training to be one who can help you achieve your individual goals.

*Balanced training: There are two different definitions to this our definition and the rest of the dog worlds definition.

Ccommon definition: completely made up training term most trainers use that means they use forceful methods and treats.

Our Definition: Teaching all basic behaviors (sit, down, place, heel, come, etc.) with positive methods (clicker and treats or a favorite toy) once all foundation behaviors have been laid we evaluate to see if the dog needs a little reminder 9 out of 10 dogs we train never use any forceful methods (pinch collar, or triple crown collar). Communication is what creates a well trained dog not force.
